Play Safe, Stay Safe - Golf Guidelines

  • The following measures were introduced at Farleigh Golf Club on Monday 1 June. Please note that these are in line with current measures outlined by the UK government, R&A, PGA, GCMA and England Golf, however due to the fluidity of the situation these are subject to change.
  • Please note that, in addition to the below, all staff will be given the necessary PPE equipment and an enhanced cleaning regime has been put in place and monitored regularly. 

To access the course, a player must:

  • Be an active member or pay respective visitor/guest fee
  • Not have been out of the country for over 14 days
  • Not be in self-isolation
  • Not be displaying COVID-19 symptoms
  • Have a pre-booked tee time

Anyone who has been advised to shield by the NHS or their GP, including those 70 and over, should continue to do so until at least the end of June.

Any player that falls outside of the criteria above or found not to be adhering to any of the rules communicated below will be asked to leave the course immediately. The following rules are in place for the safety of our members and our staff.

Course set-up

  • All rakes to be removed – please smooth over the sand with your foot. Temporary local rule of preferred lies in bunkers, if your ball lands in an un-raked section of the bunker
  • Ball washers and bins to be removed/covered
  • Benches to be removed
  • Flagsticks will remain
  • Putting green/chipping green flags to be removed and cups inverted

Before the round

  • Tee time intervals increased to 10 minutes
  • Maximum of four players per tee time
  • First tee time daily of 7am (primary and secondary) and 9am on 3rd loop
  • Last tee time each day is 5.00pm (primary course) and 6.45pm (3rd loop). All golfers to be off the golf course by 8.30pm latest. Main gates will be locked promptly at 8.45pm
  • Tee times MUST be booked in advance. Golfers without pre-booked tee times will be refused access to the golf course
  • Out of courtesy to other golfers, please cancel any unwanted tee times. No-show/late cancellation policy will apply
  • Please arrive no more than 30 minutes prior to your tee time
  • Call from the car park to check in for your tee time (member and pre-paid tee times only)
  • Clubhouse and locker rooms will be closed. Golfers are reminded to therefore change at home or in the car park
  • Golf shop and toilet facilities will be open for use. Takeaway food and beverage options will be available. Golfers are requested to wash their hands thoroughly with the sanitiser provided before entering the golf shop/clubhouse
  • Hand sanitiser/hand wash will be available in all public areas
  • All doors will be set to automatic or propped open
  • Maximum of two golfers in the golf shop at any given time. Queue from lobby area ensuring social distancing guidelines are being strictly adhered to
  • We request that any payments are made by card. Card machine will be wiped down thoroughly by staff between uses
  • Social distancing guidelines to be observed on putting and chipping greens – priority to be given to the next group due to tee off
  • Arrive at the tee no more than 5 minutes prior to your designated tee time
  • Please follow staff instructions at all times and stick to your designated starting time

During the round

  • Golfers to stay more than 2 metres apart at all times when playing the golf course
  • Do not touch or pick up stray golf balls
  • Players must not pick up another player’s golf ball or golf equipment
  • Scoring apps are available. To download please visit (
  • Flagstick must remain in the hole at all times – please use the cup lifter provided with your putter head
  • Temporary local rule – Ball is deemed to be holed with the next stroke if it is within 12 inches (putter grip) of the hole. No need for player to hole out
  • If applicable, once hole is completed, please hold back and wait for the group ahead to tee off before approaching the teeing area
  • If a ball is lost, please do not return to the original spot to play a provisional ball
  • Food, drink and clubs must not be shared between players
  • Please do not high five or shake hands with your playing partners

After the round

  • Golfers are encouraged to leave the facility immediately after their round. No congregations of any kind are permitted
  • Shoe/trolley cleaner will be turned off until further notice
  • If you experience any post-round health issues, please call or email the club as soon as possible

Driving range

  • Every other driving range bay to be out of action
  • Golf balls to be purchased and collected from the golf shop
  • All range baskets will be thoroughly sanitised in between uses

Hire items

  • Whilst limited hire equipment will be available under strict sanitising practices, if you are able to do so, we recommend that you bring your own
  • Limited golf buggies are available, however these are for single rider use only. Prices have been discounted accordingly
  • Pull and electric trollies will be available to hire from the golf shop and will be sanitized in between uses
  • Disinfectant wipes/spray will also be available for golfers to wipe down hire equipment before use

Nineteen Bar and Restauraunt Reopening Guidance

The food and beverage facilities at Farleigh are now reopen in line with guidance from the UK government and UK Hospitality.

The opening hours of the bar is currently from 7am to 7pm Monday to Thursday, 7am to 9pm on Fridays, 6am to 9pm on Saturdays and 6am to 7pm on Sundays. Last orders will be 30 minutes prior to the closing time of the bar unless otherwise stated.

Food is also available Wednesday and Thursday between 7am and 3.30pm, 7am to 5.30pm on Fridays and 6am to 5.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays with a slightly reduced menu. Initially, the kitchen is only open five days per week, closing on a Monday and Tuesday. The days of closures may change depending on the tee sheet and business levels. The operating hours/days of operation will be closely monitored and may be tweaked further going forward. Disposable menus are available and electronic menus are available by scanning a QR code on each table.

Initially, we will be reopening with a slightly reduced team, whilst we gauge demand, so please bear with us as service may initially be slightly slower than previous. It is likely that queues will be larger than normal, however, we will work our way through all customers as quickly and safely as we can.

We are currently only accepting walk-ins and booking is unavailable at this time, however, we will constantly be reviewing this and it may change.

The customer charter highlights all of the actions and measures that have been put in place for the safety of our members, guests and colleagues. Please read through prior to your visit and should you have any specific questions or concerns, please contact a member of the team on who will be happy to assist.

A summary of the actions and procedural changes for using the bar are as follows. Please note that all points raised are in line with UK government advice as of Wednesday 1st July and are, of course, subject to change. Please remember to use the hand sanitising facilities available to wash your hands. There will be many signs around the club and facilities, highlighting what members and visitors should do and the measures that we have put in place.

Indoor dining and drinking
Tables can be made up of a maximum of six people. Please wait by the podium (on entrance to the lounge area) and a member of staff will escort you to an empty table. Please do not go to the bar to place your order. A member of staff will come directly to your table to take your order. Please wear a mask at all times, unless seated at your table.

Outdoor dining and drinking
Tables can be made up of a maximum of six people who can be from up to six different households. To access the outside area, you must walk around the clubhouse to the terrace area. Entry to the terrace will not be permitted under any circumstances through the clubhouse. 

All drinks and food will be served by way of table service. Please do not go to the bar.

Standing is permitted outside, however, as is the case with seated guests, this is strictly limited to groups of six, closely observing the social distancing guidelines which are in place throughout the club. 

A covered area will be introduced outside to afford some protection from the elements.

Customers are reminded not to sit at a dirty table – please attract the attention of a member of the team who will happily clear the table for you. Please do not return your empties back to the bar when you are finished. To assist with clearance, please move all empties to the corner of your table so the staff member can easily clear away.

Toilet facilities
Please follow the signs to use the toilet and restroom facilities – please do not join the bar queue. A maximum of two people are allowed in the gents at any one time and three people are allowed in the ladies at any one time. Sinks and urinals have been blocked off/taken out of action to assist with social distancing. There is a one-way system in operation on exiting the toilets – please follow all signs.

All guests must register their details for the coronavirus 'track and trace' system prior to using the food and beverage facilities at Farleigh. Please follow the signs on the tables which will guide you through this process. Members who have pre-booked a tee time and wish to use the facilities on the same day do not need to register their details as we have enough information on your visit from the tee sheet. Any guests that may be joining you for drinks and food however must register their details. If a member wishes to use the facilities on a day that they do not have a tee time booked, they must still register their details for the track and trace system.

Cleaning measures have been dramatically increased across the whole club with ‘hot spots’ (door knobs, taps, communal surfaces etc) being wiped down every 30 minutes – UK government guidance is every 60 minutes. Staff have also been thoroughly trained as to all new COVID-related operating procedures and will have the necessary PPE at their disposal. With the exception of the chefs (who will be wearing face shields whilst in the kitchen), no PPE for staff has been mandated and is to be used at their discretion.

The above measures have been put in place for the safety of all members, guests and colleagues. Anyone found not to be following the club guidance will be asked to leave.
